EAR CANDLING

Ear Candling, or Thermal- Auricular Therapy, is a simple naturopathic therapy that has its origins in the Hopi Fire Tribe in America.  Our ancestors lived in small groups and tribes close to nature and survival meant connecting to the elements and harnessing nature. Throughout the years, the ear has been recognised as a healing site where important energy points linked to the meridians are located. In ear candling, the ear canal serves as a point for the release of stagnant energy, and together with the element fire, brings a cleansing and purifying effect to our energy field.

This pleasant, and non-invasive, treatment can be used to promote and enhance a state of health and harmony, relieving conditions related to the ear and head or simply as an enjoyable way to relieve stress.

Ear Candle treatments have been found to be extremely relaxing, balancing and can produce a sense of lightness around the head area.

What are Ear Candles?

Ear candles are hollow tubes made from linen or cotton and stiffened with beeswax, which may be infused with honey, essential oils or herbs.

The ear candles I use during my treatments are organic and handmade, using organic beeswax and organic unbleached cotton linen.  They have a secure filter at the base of the candle and they don’t contain additives or colorants. They are also impregnated with therapeutic essential oils which have healing properties.

What happens during the treatment?

Your therapist will place the ear candle painlessly at the entrance of the ear canal and light the edge of the ear candle. The heat from the candle combined with the smoke from the burning process produces a ‘smudging effect’ to the energy field and massages the eardrum creating a pleasant and relaxing effect.

The ear candle treatment is followed by a gentle massage on the lymph nodes around the ear and neck and followed by a facial and head massage with acupressure points on the face to help clear the sinuses.

...A curiosity...

The ancient shamanic practice of ‘smudging’ involves burning bundles of aromatic herbs, known as smudge sticks to clear negative energy ( known as space clearing) or to promote physical healing.

Scientifically smudging herbs has been shown to promote negative ions  (the ones that make you feel energized and well, like the ones near a waterfall), and diminish positive ions (the ones that make you feel sluggish, such as those near electric pylons).
